I'd like to see your application on my desk by Nov. 1st

It's that time of the year! The University of Miami is now looking for the members of the Class of 2013.

To all of the students on our mailing list, I've put a copy of our newest viewbook in the mail for you, and our fall 2009 application is now available online.

Here are some things that I think will make the application process smooth and easy for you:
  1. Create your Cane ID account so that you can apply online. Applying online is fast, secure, and you save $10 on your application fee.
  2. Applying early gives you an advantage in admission and scholarship consideration.
  3. It's never too early to start gathering your supporting documents for your admission file.

So...when is the application due? NOVEMBER 1 for Early Decision and Early Action; and JANUARY 15 for Regular Decision.

And if you're planning to apply to the Frost School of Music or the BFA Theatre program, you must apply through Regular Decision (Jan. 15 deadline) and schedule an audition.

What else would you like to know before you apply? Tell me and I'll blog about it next.

>>TAKE OUR POLL: How did you FIRST HEAR about the University of Miami? Vote now.

what if my academic records is outstanding, but my test scores doesnt meet your requirements? Is there still a chance for me to enroll?

Edward Gillis, Director of Admission at UM said...

I would definitely encourage you to apply because you truly won't know if you're admissible until you apply.

Our test scores are averages of the incoming class, so students fall above and below the average.

If you're very interested in UM, you should at least apply and let us take a look at your application.

I don't understand this: If I apply to more than one college by November 1st, do I have to have to stick to the college that accepts me, or can I change my mind later? I'm worried about applying to a college, getting accepted, and then wanting to go somewhere else. Also, really how important is the ACT, and why?

I'd like to learn more about scholarship opportunities and out of state admission.

Thanks!

What is tuition usually for undergraduate students? Does UM have a community service scholarship?

Hi,
could you please explain how financial aid works, and how an incoming student is penalized for their savings and how much they earn from their job. I am not rich so this is not alot of money, but to me it is valuable.

What if you're unsure about applying to this university? I'm a sophomore in high school but im unsure which university i want to apply to.

My academic records started off shaky, but have shown a steady increase throughout my high school career, I have a solid test score, and am very active in the things that I love ( i.e, voice, cello, green energy, and politics). Although my overall GPA is not top notch, what is the possibility of my enrollment?

Do you take into consideration a rigourous and very competitive high school when you look at GPA? For example, an 86 average from my high school with honors classes is equivalent to a 96 average from other schools around the country that are not as competitive. How do you know the difference between how difficult and rigourous some high schools are over the others?

I was accepted into the School of Science and Mathematics in my state for my 11th and 12th grade year. In my previous highschool, I took math class up to Honors Pre-Calculus, but I will have to take Honors Pre-Calculus and Modeling in my 11th grade year also (which I guess would be more in-depth?) So, would I still have a high chance of acceptance if you see almost the same class on my transcript with straight A's in both when compared to others who took AP Calculus AB/BC in their 11th grade? Also, if I do not take as much APs, do I need to explain my reasoning somewhere in the application?

Thanks!

I would like to know if I have to pay for my application since I am the son of an employee already vested in the school. Also if I don't have to pay for the application, I need to know how I go about applying with that benefit since I already started the application and I don't see anything that says that information so I don't have to pay for the application.
Thanks

Hi there. I wanted to let you know that I have been wondering if University of Miami would be a member of the National Student Exchange (NSE). University of Miami is such a great school that students from another school should have the opprtunity to experience what the University of Miami has to offer. It is a thought that I am asking you to consider.

I would really like all the info you can give me on your pre-med programs and the medical school your school feeds into.

Hello,
without being arrogant, I consider myself a decent student who can succeed even with challenging courses (APs...). However, I transfered from France in my sophomore year, so my GPA was considerably lowered because the grading system is very different in France, and many of my courses did not receive the credits they were really worth (pre-calculus level math was simply put into algebra, biology I was transfered to simple IPC, and none of the courses were considered honors when they should have been) .. In addition, all the courses I planned to take in my junior year and senior year was cut short when I missed school for around 5 months due to illness. as a result, I lost credit for all my junior year and was forced to take courses that I consider not as challenging and interesting I would want them to be. France also has a very different system of extracurrcular activities and I am afraid that it would affect my acceptance.. Please, could you tell me if there is anyway I can prove you that I am more worth than what my records show and if I would have a significant chance of entering MU. I took my SAT right when I went back to school, when I was still not fully recovered and thus, my score suffer to 2140. I plan to retake it in Nov. but it would be past the early decision deadline.. Could you please tell me if you would still look at the NOV sat score? Thank you very much. Van

hello.
ive been getting mail from UM since I was a sophmore, but now im a senior.

my grades during my sophmore year were pretty good, but my junior year plummeted heavily, mainly due to personal matters that need not to be discussed.

but this year ive gotten back on my feet, ive been Acing all of my test (i have 6 AP classes)
so im getten my act together pretty much.

recently i got an application form as well as a pamphlet of UM

my main question is do I have a chance despite my horrible junior year performance?

Anonymous said...

I am a junior and want to know if I should apply this early. How do we find out about all of the scholarships and grants you offer and how much tuition would cost for me?

Anonymous said...

How much does it cost to apply?

does your SAT scores effect whether or not you are accepted into UM? Do they pay more attention to your SAT scores when deciding if you will be accepted?

VISITING MIAMI

For those prospective students interested in visiting UM’s campus in Coral Gables, go to www.miami.edu/planyourvisit. There you can schedule a tour and information session as well as look for other activities going on in the area.

Is there a best time to visit? In order to really experience our campus, I’d encourage you to visit when students are out and about walking to and from classes and activities during the academic year. If you can’t make it down when school is in session, though, don’t worry! Tours are available nearly everyday of the year.

Well I want to sign up for residency at UM do I need to turn in any documentations? Also, I would want to find out of the grants and scholarships UM offers? Do I have to apply for them separately? Thank you so much for your time and patience
